An informal critique:
There is not much wrong, that I can see at first. I cannot tell if the man is posed or not. That’s good. A model who has to be posed takes a lot away from the quality of the picture. A real model knows how to pose and does so naturally. I like the inclusion of the second person, off to the left. I like that they are looking away from each other as though they are unaware of one another. My basic rule for two persons in the same picture is that they must either look at one another, away from one another as here, or both looking at the same thing or in the same direction.

The man’s position appears awkward, but comfortable. This adds interest.
The framing by the two parts of the tree could have been a problem since one crosses the frame in the foreground at an angle. It turns out to be a daring stroke of genius, possible since the diagonal is matched by the angle of the tree he is sitting on. The rough surface of the tree adds a nice element without being distracting.
OK, here it comes. I place great importance on the center of a picture, even though it is not the point of interest. The eye of the viewer will always be drawn to the center, if only to check what is there. What is there in this photo is a small tree (pair or trees?). On top of everything there is either a small support or fence or something looks strange as if there were three trunks. Short of chopping it down before taking the shot (HA!), I would have moved slightly right or left so it is not half hidden behind the tree.
Very nice candid portrait.
